The Marinwood Association

Your local non-profit volunteer community organization dedicated to preserving, maintaining and enhancing our neighborhood.

Meeting Wrap Up

I would like to extend a big thank you to all community members who came out to join us for our belated annual meeting. The meeting was a packed house, which says wonderful things about the quality of our community. To recap, here's what happened:

  • Treasurer's Report - The Marinwood Association has about $1900 in the bank and raised another $300 last night. If you have not yet joined the Marinwood Association, please make your $10 donation today and become a member. Click here.
  • Bruce Anderson's Report - Bruce gave us an update on some of the things happening at the CSD and gave us a peek at some of the features of the Marinwood Association web site.
  • Supervisor Adams Report - We heard an update from our supervisor about many of the exciting things happening in county government. Visit www.co.marin.ca.us/. for more information.
  • Safe Routes Marinwood Update - Kel Harris gave us an update on his progress with Safe Routes. Lots of exciting news there, including funding for improvements to the intersection of Las Gallinas and Blackstone. Visit the Wiki for more information. Click here.
  • Miller Creek Watershed - We heard from Rachel Kamman regarding the formation of a new group in our valley, called the Miller Creek Watershed Stewards. For the environmentally minded among us (that is all of us, right?) this is an exciting opportunity to protect our watershed from the headwaters at Big Rock, all the way down to the Bay. More info about this group here.
  • Marinwood Plaza - We heard from Peter Brandon of Trammel Crow regarding the planned development of the Marinwood Plaza. It seems that everybody wants a market ASAP. Peter walked us through the process, as he sees it, and informed us that it will be a multi-year process before the market is open. I would venture to say that Peter was well received, despite this disappointing information.
  • New Officers - A new slate of officers was proposed and voted on in the meeting. We still have two openings, so, if you would like apply for the position and chair a committee, please let me know via e-mail, geoffmack@gmail.com

If you have any comments regarding the meeting, we encourage you to participate by joining an online discussion. Here's how: Go to the Blog, log in, (if you haven't registered with the blog, register here) then click on the title of any blog entry that interests you, and leave a comment in the box.

Thank you again for attending the meeting. See you soon - Geoff Mack

Marinwood Association Community Meeting

As you may have heard, Marinwood Plaza has been purchased by Trammell Crow, a large and successful real estate development company, with local ties to our neighborhood in the person of Peter Brandon, the head of TC's Northern California Development, who happens to live in Lucas Valley. Peter, like the rest has watched the deterioration of the plaza over the last few decades and has determined that he and Trammel Crow are the right people to set things right and to build something that all of us can be proud of.

The Marinwood Association is going to hold our annual public meeting and Peter is front and center on the agenda, along with our Supervisor, Susan Adams. So come down and join us and let Peter know your hopes for the plaza. Here are the details:

When: Wednesday, January 30th, 2008, 7:30pm
Where: Marinwood Community Center (now called the Howard Council Center)

WE NEED YOUR HELP! We want this to be a well attended meeting to show Peter just how important this project is to the entire community. You can download the flyer here. Print out 6 copies. Keep one for yourself. Give one to each house adjecent to yours.

See you at the meeting.

Marinwood Brochure from the 1950's

A few years ago at our annual Heatherstone block party, one of the neighborhood's few remaining original residents shared with me a brochure that was given to her at the time she was originally shopping for her home in Marinwood in the 50's. The brochure shows all of the home models that were for sale, and my neighbor actually wrote down the prices of the homes... you'll be floored when you see it. I scanned the brochure into my computer and printed out a few copies and it never fails to generate a lot of interest. So, for those of you that would like a copy of the original Marinwood Brochure, here are the pages, after the jump. Link

Miller Creek Watershed Stewards

The Marinwood Association has chosen to sponsor an important new community organization called the Miller Creek Watershed Stewards. The MCWS have set about an ambitious agenda for themselves, to protect and preserve the quality of the watershed in our little valley, from Big Rock to the Bay. They are having their first public meeting on October 11 and they need you. Stop by. Have a cookie. And learn about the MCWS and what you can do to make a difference in the quality of our little valley for generations to come.

Thursday, October 11th, 7:00-8:30pm
Dixie Elementary School (Multi-Purpose Room)
1175 Idyllberry Road

You can download a flyer for the event here Feel free to make a few copies and help distribute the flyer. Get the word out!

We now have dedicated several parts of the Marinwood Association website to the Miller Creek Watershed Stewards. There is the MCWS page, forum and blog.
